Football: Carrier Pick-Six Helps Seal Chatfield Win Over Triton

October 5, 2026 by Paul Trende Leave a Comment

Chatfield’s Logan Pearson gets to the ball faster than Triton’s Jackson Kraemer, as Pearson records the interception in the Gophers’ 34-28 win over Triton. Chatfield had two fourth-quarter picks, including a 67-yard pick-six by Sam Carrier.

In a Southeast-Yellow sub-district affair, Chatfield did not lead Triton until the waning seconds of the third quarter. But a pair of fourth quarter interceptions helped the Gophers to a comeback win. The Cobras used a 59-yard hook-and-ladder on their second series (from Graden Thomas to Jackson Kraemer to Braxton Koss). It set up the game’s first score, a Thomas 2-yard TD run. With PAT, the Cobras lead 7-0. After a Logan Pearson 50-yard kick-return, Chatfield went 42 yards in nine plays. A Nolan Happel 2-yard run, plus Ross Stoehr PAT, made it 7-7. But Triton then had a 14-play, 75-yard drive. On 4th and six from the 31, Thomas hit Koss for a 31-yard scoring pass. With PAT, Triton led 14-7, which was the halftime score. In the second half, Chatfield took the opening kickoff 60-yards in nine plays. They survived a bad snap (a 3rd and 29 at the Cobra 49) via a Hunter Polikowsky 26-yard run, then a Happel 8-yard run. Two plays later, Happel scored from 13-yards out. A Stoehr PAT made it 14-14. But Triton then had a 13-play, 75-yard drive. On 3rd and 16, Thomas scrambled in from 28 yards out. The PAT failed leaving the Cobras up 20-14 with 0:37 left in the third. Just 20-seconds later, Chatfield was ahead. Carter Ask hit Pearson on a 62-yard scoring pass play. Stoehr added the PAT, making it 21-20 Gophers, their first lead. Pearson then intercepted Thomas on Triton’s next possession. On 4th and 5 from the 17, Happel hit Brooks Lea for a 17-yard pass play making it 27-20 (5:21). Sam Carrier then basically iced things, intercepting Thomas and returning it 67-yards to paydirt (3:22). With Stoehr PAT, Chatfield went ahead 34-20. The Cobras scored with 1:19 left to make it 34-27, but Chatfield’s Talyn Schoenfelder recovered the on-side kick, and the Gophers got a first down to seal the win. Hunter Polikowsky (16-103 rushing; 2-28 receiving), Happel (2 of 2, 37 yards, TD passing; 13-40, 2 TDs rushing), and Pearson (2-71, TD receiving, defensive interception) did the biggest work. Carter Ask (5 of 7, 96 yards, TD passing) and Lea (2-27, TD receiving) helped. Thomas (13 of 22, 186 yards, TD, 2 INTs passing; 20-132, 3 TDs rushing) had all four Cobra scores. Koss (3-108, TD receiving) was his favorite target. Chatfield (2-1, 3-1) is tied for second place with #10 in AA (tie) R-P (2-1, 3-1) and Lourdes (2-1, 2-2) behind #2 in Class AA Caledonia (4-0, 4-0).
