Kingsland (1-2) ran for double digit first downs. LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli (3-0), ranked #7 in 9-Man, passed for double digit first downs. With the Knights controlling the trenches, Matt Kolling’s group knocked the Cardinals from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Knights took control of the game with the first three series of the second half. In a 6-6 game, Kingsland started the second stanza with a 16-play, 85-yard drive. A Bently Wiersma 2-yard TD run plus Collin Stuart conversion pass to Dan Lund made the score 14-6 Knights. Kingsland then forced a three-and-out, and went 59 yards in four plays. A Wiersma 51-yard TD run did most of the work. Riley Warren’s PAT put the Knights up 21-7 early in the fourth. But L-O/L/P replied immediately. A nine-play, 68-yard drive was capped by a 12-yard Reid Hungerholt TD run. With a Hungerholt to Mason Janssen conversion pass, L-O/L/P trimmed the lead to 21-14 (6:49). But Kingsland then got a 29-yard Trent Aarsvold kickoff return to the Cardinals side of the field. Wiersma’s third TD of the second half (22 yards), fourth of the game, plus Warren PAT, made it 28-14 (4:56). But L-O/L/P then replied, scoring in just over two minutes, going 60 yards. A Hungerholt to Banning Korfhage 16-yard TD pass made it 28-20, as the conversion failed (2:49). Trevor Carrier’s group (Janssen) then recovered an on-side kick, giving L-O/L/P lots of life. But the Cardinals turned the ball over on downs after just two yards. Wiersma ran for a game-sealing first down on 3rd and three, cementing the by record “upset” win by 28-20 final. Behind his line, Wiersma was the man for the Knights (22 carries, 219 yards, 4 TDs rushing). He was the only Knight with over 50 yards total offense. KD Reiland added 36 yards on nine carries plus two sacks. Aarsvold added an interception. Cody Howard was credited with a team-high 12 tackles. Hungerholt (15 of 37, 209 yards, TDs, conversion, INT, passing) targeted Wollenburg (10-126 receiving) 22 times. Wollenburg hit Hungerholt for 40 yards. Jaxon Learn caught a 30-yard pass while authoring one of two Card interceptions. Asher McNeely had the other. Hungerholt (16-53, 2 TDs rushing) was held to a season low on the ground. He had surpassed 175 in each of his first three games. L-O/L/P missed a chance just before halftime. They had one play from the 8-yard-line with 0:02 left but a pass was incomplete. L-O/L/P (3-1, 3-1), SG (3-1, 3-1) and Lanesboro (3-1, 3-1) now trail AC-G-E (4-0, 4-0) atop the South-East. Kingsland (2-2, 2-2), GM (2-2, 2-2), and M-C (2-2, 2-2) follow.
