Lanesboro scored on the last play of the first half, with 0:00 on the clock, and then blocked a punt to start the second half, setting up a short field, leading to another score. Said two plays were pivotal as James Semmen’s group took control of their game at Houston. The Burros blanked the ‘Canes 34-0. To end the first half, leading just 8-0, Lanesboro marched 90 yards in nine plays, sophomore QB Teague Tessum hitting Quadyn Kettner on an 11-yard pass play with the clock expired. It gave the Burros a 14-0 lead at intermission. Carter Hovland then blocked a Hurricane punt early in the second half. The Burros went 32 yards in five plays, Preston Clarke capping things with an 8-yard TD run to make it 20-0. The Burro ground game behind a big offensive line churned out nearly 300 yards as four Lanesboro ball carriers amassed over 40 yards on the ground and four scored a rushing TD. Tessum (15-96, TD rushing; 2-9, 51 yards, TD passing) and Henry Semmen (7-70, TD rushing, 40-yard reception) led the way. Charles Guma (9-51 yards rushing), Kettner (8-44 rushing; 11-yard TD reception), Clarke (8-yard TD run), and Ben Norby (7-yard TD run) all did good things. The Burro defense was also up to task, holding the ‘Canes to 100 yards total offense. Houston had just one second half first down, just five for the game. Kettner added an interception while Semmen and James Cullen each shared two sacks. Aaren Kulas (11-40 rushing) was Houston’s leading yardage getter. Hector Steinfeldt had a team-high 13 tackles. The ‘Canes played without All-District running back Lee Klunder. Lanesboro (1-0 in the South-East, 1-0 overall) matches its win total from last year. Houston is 0-1, 0-1. Lanesboro took back the series “Bell” after Houston had kept it the last two years.
