Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston Soccer Previews

The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston girls are coming off a 3-12-1 season, including a winless 0-9-1 conference campaign. The Warriors, with the 7-seed, fell to 2 seed La Crescent-Hokah in the opening quarterfinal round of the Section 1A playoffs. Honorable Mention all-conference senior midfielder Lillian Thies, already a four-year letter winner, is one of seven girls returning with starting experience: seniors goalkeeper Alexis Qualy, Kya Deck, Brairy Proulx and Bristol Kuennen plus junior Kristen Schmidt and sophomore Kendall Weichert. Thies said she is excited for the season. “I like this team.” The 20-player varsity roster consists of six seniors, six juniors, four sophomores, three freshmen and one eighth grader. Chris Jandt enters his 12 the season as head coach of the girls’ program after two seasons of guiding the Warrior boys. The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston boys won only once last fall with a 1-13 record overall and winless at 0-10 in conference action. With the 11-seed, the Warrior boys dropped a 4-0 decision against 6-seed Lake City in the opening round of the 1A Tournament. Veteran coach Jay Marschall has a veteran crew with eight Warriors having starting experience: seniors Anthony Hahn (goalkeeper), Ayden Marschall, Isaac King, Evan Randall, Alexzander Vick and Oliver Bulman plus junior Trevin Meyers and sophomore Colton Haase. There are five seniors, some of whom have been playing together since second grade. The varsity roster also includes four juniors, six sophomores and one freshman.
