Richard “Dick” Webster, 90, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Marys Hospital.
Richard Gene Webster was born January 14, 1936, in Spring Valley, Minnesota, to LaVerne and Vermona (Alberts) Webster. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1955. Following high school, he went to work for IBM.
Dick married Geraldine “Gerrie” Hovey on July 21, 1957, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. They moved to Endicott, New York, for a short time as Dick worked for IBM and returned to the Spring Valley and Rochester area, before settling in Spring Valley permanently in 1968.
Dick worked at IBM for 30 years from 1957 until 1987. After he retired from IBM, he then worked at Peterson Motors in sales for nine years. Dick was a great dad, husband, grandpa and great-grandpa.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, including attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid Gopher and Viking fan. He and Gerrie held Gopher season tickets for over 30 years. In 2024, he was inducted as a member of the Hall of Fame of the Kingsland Athletic Booster Club, which he cherished. He also enjoyed weekly senior dining and card playing at the Spring Valley Community Center.
Dick and Gerrie were married for 66 wonderful years and raised six children and are survived by Deanne Spurgeon of Spring Valley, Brenda (Bruce) Dahlstrom of Rochester, Tad Webster of Santa Barbara, California, Sonja (Dale) Amy of Rochester, Jay (Dawn) Webster of Spring Valley and Raf (Tracy) Webster of Byron; 12 grandchildren: Miranda, Jared, Josh, Shannon, Ariel, Riley, Kyle, Kailey, Kory, Kellyn, Rylan and Audrey; and eight great-grandchildren: Lydia, Emma, Andie, Wyatt, Lejla, Kolbie, Zara and Emery; nieces and nephews, and his siblings Kevin Thon and Terry Leibfried. Dick treasured the companionship and friendship with his friend Mary.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gerrie, parents and brother Jerry Webster.
A celebration of life for Dick was held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, with Pastor Tami Groth officiating. Visitation was from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday at the church prior to the service. A private burial was held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church; funeral attendees were encouraged to wear Minnesota Gopher attire for the service.
