Ethel Johnson, age 102, of LeRoy, Minn., formerly of Ostrander, Minn., died on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Wildwood Grove Assisted Living in LeRoy, where she has resided since June 2015.
Ethel was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on August 1, 1923, to Lars and Salmina (Simonson) Osterud. She attended Ostrander Public School and later graduated from high school in Spring Valley. She attended business school in Winona, Minn., until coming back to Ostrander to be bookkeeper for her dad and business partner Hadland and Osterud Implement Dealer.
On October 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Martin Johnson at the parsonage in Ostrander. They were married until Martin’s passing in September 2012. Ethel and Martin enjoyed many trips over the years sponsored by International Harvester.
In her younger years, Ethel enjoyed doing cross stitch, crochet, and rug hooking. She love taking care of her yard and flower gardens and took great pride of her home. She also enjoyed listening to big band and polka music.
Ethel leaves behind a nephew, Jan (Cindy) Osterud; a niece, Lisa (Jerry) Beard; grandniece Breea Osterud (special friend Wade) and her daughter Nova, grandnephew Max Perkins, and her dear friend Patrice Pelletrier, all of Newburgh, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin, and her brother Robert Osterud.
Per Ethel’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A private family committal service at Ostrander Cemetery will take place at a later date.
