Softball: #3 Hurricanes Roll 53-1 to Improve to 7-0

Houston softball is ranked #3 in Class A, as high as it has been in decades (if ever). The Hurricanes continued their big start to the season with four more wins by a collective 53-1 tally. Versus Lyle/Pacelli, Josh Swenson’s group won 14-1 in five innings. Frosh Claire Frauenkron was perfect at the plate (3-3, two 2B, 2 RBI, 3R) and collected the pitching win (4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K). Rylee Boldt was also perfect at the plate, hitting a home run (3-3, two 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R). The Hurricanes then avenged a 2025 loss in Spring Valley, beating GMLOK 13-0 in five innings. Claire F. (4-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, R) had the rare shot to hit for the cycle in the sixth inning (needed a home run). She also collected the pitching win, giving up just one hit (5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 11 K). Caidence Frauenkron (1-1, 2B, 3 R), Olivia Yohe (2-3, 2B, RBI, 3 R), Kayla Klunder (1-2, 2B, RBI, R), Boldt (1-3, RBI, R), and Hailey Stark (1-1, 2 R) also did work. Schaeffer Academy then fell 15-0 in four innings. Claire F. (2-3, 3B, R) drove in four runs and struck out 11 (4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, Win). Klunder (2-2, 2B, RBI, 3 R), Boldt (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Caidence F. (2-2, RBI, R), Julia Swenson (1-1, 3B, 2 RBI), Stark (1-1, 2B, 2 RBI), Aspen Peterson (1-2, R), and Emily Baumann (1-1, RBI, R) made a team effort. Houston finished the week off in Elgin, beating AA PEM 11-0 in seven innings. Claire F. (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R) pitched the ever-rare perfect game, 21-up, 21-down with a career-high 18 strikeouts. She improved to 7-0. Swenson (3-3, 2B, 3 R), Yohe (2-4, R), Caidence F. (1-3, 3B, RBI, R), Klunder (1-4, 2 RBI, R), and Stinson (1-4, 2B, 3 RBI, R) also did offensive work. It was Houston’s third AA win. They are now 4-0 in the SEC, 7-0 overall.

Softball: #7 Warriors Go 3-1 with Two Ranked Wins

Caledonia softball’s week was one out away from being undefeated. Chad Augedahl’s #7 in AA Warriors went 3-1, beating two ranked foes. Caledonia first beat Rushford-Peterson 21-0 in four innings in TRC action. Elsa Blum (3-3, three 2B, 3 R) drove in five runs. Vivian Kittlson (4-4, RBI, 3 R), Paizley Lange (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), and Avery Augedahl (3-4, 3B, 3 RBI) also collected at least three hits. Adrienne Lange (1-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 4 R), Nora Staggemeyer (2-2, RBI, R), Lily Augedahl (2-4, RBI, R), Ashlyn Reinhart (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Raiya Goetzinger (1-1, 2B, RBI), and Brairy Proulx (1-1, RBI, R) helped. R-P managed just one hit versus Augedahl (4 IP, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K, Win). Caledonia then took on the two-day St. Charles tourney. On Friday, they topped #4 in AAA Byron 2-1. Blum (3-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R) doubled in Augedahl (1-3, 3B) in the first and hit a solo home run in the fourth for the Warriors’ runs. Augedahl (7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 11 K) got the win. The teams combined for just six hits. The Warriors followed that by topping #3 in AA Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, 5-4. The score was 1-1 heading to the top of the seventh when Caledonia scored four to lead 5-1. Blum (2-run) and Proulx (1-run) had RBI doubles in the inning. D-G-F then scored three in their half but had no runners on base when the final out was recorded. Proulx (2-3, 2B, R), P-Lange (2-3, RBI), Blum (1-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI), and Reinhart (1-3, HR #2, RBI, R) led the “O.” Augedahl (7 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) got the win. The Warriors then fell to LeSueur-Henderson 4-3, giving up a three-run bottom of seven. A two-out, two-run double was the walk-off hit. Staggemeyer (3-4), Blum (2-4, RBI), Reinhart (2-3, R), and Augedahl (6 2/3 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, Loss (4-1)) did work. The Warriors are 2-0 in the TRC, 4-1 overall.
