Gopher Girls Punch Perfect Score

September 21, 2020 by Paul Trende

Fillmore County Journal - Sports

It is a lot easier to do at a three-team meet.  Nonetheless, it is still a pretty nice accomplishment.  At their second event of the year, Chatfield’s girls posted the cross country perfect score.  Jayna Tangen’s Gophers took first, second, third, fourth, and fifth places to easily win the St. Charles Invite.  Chatfield had 15 points, the Saints 51, and Schaeffer Academy was incomplete.   The Gophers scoring five were first place Tessa McMahon (21:43), second place Abbi Gillespie (22:16), third place Aletta Strande (23:03), fourth place Belle Carr (23:09), and fifth place Katie Dornack (23:22).   Like for a lot of kids this year, is was McMahon’s first meet title.   Fifteen total girls competed at the 5-kilometer run.  The boys team meet was very close.  Schaeffer (39) clipped Chatfield (41) by two points, though key Gopher runner (captain) Evan Wright didn’t compete.  Both Chatfield and Schaeffer had four runners in the top ten.  The Lions gained two points each head-to-head on runners one through four, while Chatfield gained six points via runner five.  St. Charles (47) took third.  Lion runner Luke Bothun (17:30) took first, Saint Andrew O’Hare (18:06) second, and Gopher Treyton Lanning (18:49) third.  Twenty boys competed.  The races were ran in cold rainy conditions at St. Charles Golf Course.
