Hambone Gets M-C Softball 2-Seed

It wasn’t a fast start to the season.  Coming off two fine seasons, M-C softball started this year 5-5.  The Cougars have lost just once (to now #1 Carlton 5-4).  M-C won four games the last week of the regular season.  A Monday ‘W’ over Houston saw the ‘Canes lead 12-7 heading to M-C’s bottom six.  The Cougars scored thrice with two out (four hits from top five batters).  With it 12-10 in the seventh, batters seven thru nine reached.  Senior Hannah Snell won the game with a 2-run walk-off triple!  M-C prevailed 13-12!  Snell (4-5, two 3B, 3 RBI, 3 R) and Kenidi McCabe (4-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 R) had huge days.  Lexi Thorson (2-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R) also had multiple hits.  Emily Carolan collected the win.  Alyssa Rostad (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Olivia Beckman (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Tessa Peterson (3-5, 2B, 3 R), and Jeana Hahn (3-5, RBI, R) led the ‘Canes.  M-C won 6-5 just days earlier.  Kati Bergey’s Cougars then redeemed a 10-1 defeat by beating GMLOK 7-2.  Six runs were unearned. McCabe (3-4, 2B, 2 R) and Thorson (2-4, RBI, 2 R) had multiple hits.  Carolan (7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 K) pitched a solid win.  Liz Jacobsen (1-3, RBI) and Lily Hughes (7 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K, Loss) led the Bulldogs.  M-C then avenged a 6-4 loss, beating AC/GE 10-0 (in five).  McCabe (3-4, 3 RBI, 2 R) stayed hot.  Payton Danielson (3-4, 2B, 3 RBI, R) and Molly Lee (2-3, 2B, RBI) added multiple hits.  Carolan picked up another win (5 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K).  Ending the run, M-C spotted L/P seven runs, tied it after two innings (7-7), and then prevailed 11-8.  Snell (3-3, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R), McCabe (3-4, 2 RBI, R), Jordyn Newgard (2-4, 3B, 2 R) and Carolan (4-4, 7 IP, Win) helped M-C to a hambone (equals 4 strikes in bowling) (four wins, four days).  McCabe went 13 of 16 on the week (7 RBI, 8 R) with four three-plus hit games.   The frosh Carolan improved to 11-6.  She’s pitched every inning for the Cougs.  M-C (8-4, 11-6) is 1A East’s 2-seed, will host 7-seed Southland (0-17).
