It was the game of week five. Randolph (3-1) football travelled to #5 in 9-Man Houston (4-0). The teams engaged in a tit-for-tat track meet. Regulation saw four ties; 8, 16, 24 and 38. There were six lead-changes. Houston led 16-8, 30-24, and 38-32; Randolph 8-0, 24-16, and 32-30. James Hongerholt’s 1-yard TD (plus Joey Fishel run) in the fourth gave team double-H the 38-32 lead. Randolph came back and scored very late, an Andrew Wenstrom 7-yard TD pass to Carsyn Gunderson. The 2-point run, from the 1 ½ yard-line (per penalty), failed, leaving it 38-38 heading to OT. There, Wenstrom hit Isaac Stoesz from five yards out, and then for two (46-38). Houston had to get a score and a two, and did; Hongerholt a 4th and goal 1-yard TD run, Fishel the 2-point run (46-46). In the second OT, it took one play for Houston to score, a Jaytin Millen 10-yard TD run. Millen added the two for a 54-46 edge. The ‘Cane defense then finally held, on 4th and goal from the two. Cody Hungerholt’s group got the huge back-and-forth barn-burner 54-46 win. Fishel (27-188, TD rushing), Millen (27-126, 3 TDs rushing), and Hongerholt (13-47, 3 TDs rushing, 2-5, 55 yards passing) carried the attack. Wenstrom (21-29, 258 yards, 3 TDs, INT passing, 25-142, 3 TDs rushing) was a one-man army for the Rockets. Gunderson (7-110, TD receiving) was his top target. The teams combined for 52 first downs and 865 total yards (R 450, H 415). It will be South-East District leaders, #5 Houston (4-0, 5-0) versus #1 Spring Grove (4-0, 5-0) in week 6
