Thank you to our political leaders

April 6, 2020 by Fillmore County Journal

Fillmore County Journal - Weekly Newspaper Serving Southeast Minnesota's Bluff Country - Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

As a small business owner who has seen government mandates severely impact my business, I would like to thank our political leaders at all levels for shelving politics and working together to help us minimize the economic pain we’re experiencing from the coronavirus.

In particular, I’d like to thank our Congressman, Jim Hagedorn, for joining with Rep. Chris Pappas, a Democrat from New Hampshire, and working together to add the Employee Retention Tax Credit to the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package. Hagedorn and Pappas’s legislative initiative enables small businesses to keep their employees on payroll during this crisis and receive 100% of costs back in the form of tax credits.

Facilitating the retention of employees will help small businesses avoid spending valuable resources recruiting and training workers when we are able to restart our economy and get people back to work.

The bipartisan work of Congressman Hagedorn, and that of many other elected officials, will help us fight the coronavirus, sustain our households and businesses and prepare to rebuild our economy.
