Mayvis Schwartz, 94, of rural Chatfield, passed away at Seasons Hospice in Rochester on November 3, 2019.
She was born on November 26, 1924, in Fillmore County to Melvin and Mabel (Redalen) Erickson. Growing up, she lived in Pilot Mound and graduated from Chatfield High School. She married Fritz Schwartz in 1946, and they resided in rural Wykoff. A few years later, they purchased a farm near Pilot Mound. In 1984 they bought Mayvis’s home farm where they lived the rest of their 63 years together until Fritz’s death in 2009. She remained on the farm until she was 93, when she moved into assisted living.
During her life, Mayvis was active in her community and held offices and memberships in the Pilot Mound Lutheran Church, Pilot Mound Township, Farm Bureau, 4-H, and Homemakers club. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed many types of needlework and quilting.
She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses: Barbara (Larry) Berge, Chatfield, Minn., and Janet (Terry) Stotts, Lake Oswego, Oreg.; five grandchildren: Brent (Jamie) Todd, Kelly (Nathen) Nesler, Rebecca (Adam) Arnes, Jordan (Danielle) Berge and Landon (Bria) Berge; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many neighbors whom she considered family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Harriette Timm.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 6, 2019, from 5-7 p.m., at Riley Funeral Home, Chatfield, Minn.
The funeral service will be Thursday, November 7, at 11 a.m., at Chatfield Lutheran Church, 304 Fillmore Street SE, Chatfield, Minn., with Pastor Sarah J. Walker-Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Pilot Mound Cemetery.
The family is grateful to the many workers in assisted living, memory care and hospice for their kind and thoughtful treatment.
