On February 13, Eitzen Mayor Jeff Adamson announced at the city council meeting that two workdays have been scheduled for the town’s Habitat for Humanity house. The first workday is set for Saturday, February 17, and the second is scheduled for Saturday, February 24.
Adamson explained that “things are happening and hopefully by spring, Habitat for Humanity will get things wrapped up and get someone in there.” He also encourages anyone if they are looking for something to do for a couple hours Saturday morning to stop by and help. Volunteers are asked to register first at https://app.giveffect.com/campaigns/30611-eitzen-build. The house is located at 103 Iowa Ave N.
The meeting to order at 6:09 p.m. All council members, including Emily Burrichter, Mitch Lange, Mitch Luttchens and Doug Meyer, were present. Others in attendance included City Maintenance Supervisor Darryl Meyer and Gators Bar & Grill Owner Dan Esser.
The meeting agenda, minutes from the January 9 council meeting, and the February financial reports were unanimously approved as presented. During the meeting, the council discussed the delinquent accounts and agreed to send “threatening” letters that either a limiter will be placed on their meters or a lien will be placed on the property.
Dan Esser requested the use of the community center on March 23 for a corn hole tournament, with all proceeds going to St. Jude. Councilmen Meyer and Luttchens recommended waiving the rental fees for the tournament, and the council unanimously agreed to do so.
The council also approved a quote from Hoskins Electric for $85,789.62. The quote includes well house modifications, repeater station, Townline Street lift station, and ball field lift station. The mayor stressed, “It is a good chunk of change for electronics, but I think it is something we need to keep updated.” Councilmember Meyer agreed stating, “I think it needs to be done before it absolutely has to be done and we are sitting and waiting six weeks to get it done.”
Paperwork has been submitted for a grant to pay for a trench box. Now it is a matter of waiting to see if the city is awarded the grant.
At the January city council meeting, the Eitzen Lions Club proposed that the city share the cost of improvements at the ballpark 50/50. Each entity would pay $7,000. Since the city has already spent $4,000 to $5,000 on improvements at the ballpark with more to come, the council unanimously agreed to pay $5,000 for the improvements.
The mayor announced that the Local Board of Appeal meeting is scheduled for April 25, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at city hall.
Councilman Luttchens presented an update on the benches made from plastic bags. There were enough plastic bags donated that the city would receive three benches which will be placed strategically throughout town.
In other business the council:
•Agreed to purchase six pivet wheels at a cost of $1,425each for a total of $8,550. Supervisor Meyer confirmed that the price includes installation and that they will be installed by spring as the irrigator runs from April to November. He also confirmed that the “old” wheels will be traded in but did not know what the city would receive for them until the dealer has a chance to inspect them.
•Approved paying the bills.
•Adjourned the meeting at 6:43 p.m.
