The year twenty-twenty-one has
left us in the dust
To keep people safe, wearing a
mask was a must
The year started with a
carryover from twenty-one
Illness, death, and unsureness
were not done
The heated world of politics
continued to abound
Splitting families and friends
right to the ground
This little thing called COVID
has changed many plans
And separated those throughout
different lands
Vaccinations, boosters, and
testing is the talk of the day
Each making that decision in
our own way
Fires, floods, drought,
tornadoes, gunfire, and trials
So many depressing things
across these U.S. miles
The Olympics a year late were
finally able to take place
Swimming, gymnastics, soccer,
or running a race
As normalcy the world tries to
once again regain
Respect, love and kindness
should always remain
No more fighting on airplanes
or gunshots in anger fired
The whole world is beyond sad,
frightened, and tired
But hope there is in the world
going through this dark
It can be seen in neighborhoods,
restaurants, and parks
People helping others with no
heat or food on the table
Paying it forward is happening
from those who are able
Eyes glistening with kindness
and smiles on faces
There is still love out there and
it comes from all races
Hug your children, parents,
siblings, and friends
Memories can be made with
them without end
The days go fast and it seems
life passes us by
Make this the year you don’t
wonder why
Get out and do those things
that make you happy and gay Dancing in the rain or soaking
up sunshine rays
Most of all, hold on to
those you love so dear
Cherish each day of this brand
new year
No more barriers, lets break that
wall
Wishing this big world love and
peace to all
