Warren D. Johnson, of Spring Grove, Minn., passed away on February 17, 2020, at the age of 84.
He was born February 2, 1936, to Walter and Elsie (Vickerman) Johnson. He attended High School in Canton, Minn., and he was united in marriage to Joyce Wright on May 25, 1958.
Warren served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He graduated from the Police Academy in New Brighton, Minn., and was chief of police in Spring Grove for 36 years, and he was active in the Spring Grove and Mabel ambulance service for 30 years. He enjoyed family, friends, and gardening. His favorite job during retirement was driving school bus for many years.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Johnson, children Cindy Johnson, Virgie (Joe) Rud, Danley (Betty) Johnson, Janeen (Bruce) Hoitink, and Derrick (Tammy) Johnson; his best buddy, his dog Rosa; grandchildren Jenny (David) Fitzpatrick, Jamie (Andy) Rud-Collett, Jeanna (Eric) McCabe, Jessica (Alex) Kroll, Lindsey Peter, Luci Hoitink, Mike, Riley, and Dylan Johnson; McKenna and Aiden Johnson; great-grandchildren James, Emily, Lilly Fitzpatrick, Samuel Collett, Landon Kroll, and Mallory, Bronson and Carson McCabe; sisters Joanne Shorter, Carol (Bill) Stahnke, Wanda Rasmussen, and Rita (Roger) Westphal; sisters-in-law Gladis Johnson and Marion Johnson, brother-in-law Gerald (Ceil) Wright, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, Mabel. Father Stephen Abaukaka will officiate and military honors will be given. Burial will be in Mabel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday before the service at the church.
