For the upcoming election, there are quite a few candidates running unopposed.
County Commissioners
In Fillmore County, Minn., Mitch Lenz (District 1) and Larry Hindt (District 3) will be able to keep their seat warm, continuing their work unopposed.
For Houston County, Minn., Robert Burns (District 3) and Greg Myhre (District 5) will be the only option on the ballot.
Soil & Water Conservation District
In Fillmore County, Minn., Kathy Tesmer (Supervisor District 3), Eunice Biel (Supervisor District 4), and Travis Willford (Supervisor District 5) – all unopposed.
Houston County has Kenneth Anderson (Supervisor District 3), Glenn Kruse (Supervisor District 4), and Matthew Feldmeier (Supervisor District 5) running unopposed.
Mayors (16 of them)
Chatfield’s Russell Smith, Fountain’s James Schott, Harmony’s Steve Donney, Lanesboro’s Jason Resseman, Mabel’s James Westby, Ostrander’s Pam Kunert, Peterson’s Tim Hallum, Preston’s Kurt Reicks, Rushford Village’s Dennis Overland, Spring Valley’s Tony Archer, Whalan’s Marlys Tuftin, Wykoff’s Alan Williams, Eitzen’s Jeff Adamson, Houston’s David Olson, Spring Grove’s Scott Solberg, and Grand Meadow’s Jim Davis – all running in uncontested races.
City Councils
In Chatfield, council members Pamela Bluhm and Joshua Broadwater are not only running unopposed, but the City of Chatfield has a total of three seats available for any write-in takers.
For Fountain, there are only two seats available, and only two candidates will appear on the ballot. Veteran council member Dave Gudmundson is running again. Long-time council member Chad Wangen has opted not to run again, while Colleen Foehrenbacher aims to claim a seat on the council.
Mabel City Council has two seats and two candidates; Cory Wilson and Kirsten Wyffels.
Ostrander is the same boat. Two candidates and two seats available. Dan Hellerud and Vernon Thompson are running unopposed.
In the Trout Capital, Preston has two seats available and Dean Aug and David Collett are the only candidates on the ballot.
For Council Member at Large for Rushford Village, Michael Ebner and Rick Ruberg have a lock on the only two seats available.
Eitzen has Mitch Lange and Mitchel Luttchens running for two seats.
In Houston, Emily Krage and Cody Mathers are the only contenders to fill two seats.
School Boards
The Mabel-Canton School Board has four seats and four candidates: Cristal Adkins, Jason Marquardt, Chris Miller, and Mark Weidemann.
Rushford-Peterson is in short supply of candidates. Ken Sawle is the only one on the ballot for School Board Member at Large, and they have four seats to fill.
Houston Public Schools has three seats and three candidates: Mimi Carlson, Richard Erdmann, and Josh Norlien.
For Spring Grove Public Schools, they three candidates to fill three seats: Aric Elton, Stephanie Morken Jaster, and Aaron Solumn.
Caledonia Public Schools could use some more candidates. They have two on the ballot, but have three seats to fill. Daniel Small and Spencer Yohe are the lone contenders.
