Track and Field: GMLOKS Girls Win Sixth Straight 1A True Team Title, LFCMC Makes State, Too

For a sixth straight year, GMLOKS girls track and field captured the Section 1A True Team crown.  It was a tight race to the top, as Aaron Thauwald’s group (1160.5) bested Cotter/Hope Lutheran (1156.5) by a mere four points. LFCMC (1087), St. Charles (1045.5), and Lake City (912.5) rounded out the top five. RPH (880.5) took sixth and Chatfield (877) seventh of 21 teams. Leading the GMLOKS charge was senior Chantle Reiland, who grabbed two first places (100 > 12.47, 200 > 25.52), a fourth (Long Jump), and a sixth (400).  Team GM’s only other first place was Lauren Queensland (High Jump > 5’2”), who tied her sister Riley’s program mark. Also doing big work were Breeley Galle (3rd 100-hurdles, 3rd 300-hurdles, 4th Triple Jump) and Gracie Foster (5th 100-H, 7th 300-H, 7th T- Jump). Amelia McCabe (3rd-tie) and Avery Stroup (6th) were top tier Pole Vaulters. Neveah Shaw (6th) gave GMLOKS two top six High Jumpers. Three different throwers finished top 10; Brynn Sathre (2nd Discus), Kloe Meyer (7th Shot Put), and Caisa Kolling (9th Shot). The 4×200 (Lydia Redman, Brynna Nelson, Galle, Keira Stier) took second, the 4×400 (Kiera Eickhoff, Rylee Holst, Nelson, Queensland) and 4×800 (Queensland, Emma Lewiston, Ann Imm, Sadie Bustad) each took fifth. Nelson (400) also took tenth. For third place LFCMC, Autumn Rakosnik took first (5:14.87) and broke her Coach Lori (Bearson) Anderson’s (set in 1979) school record (5:15.3) in the 1,600. Rakosnik also took second in the 800. Elizabeth Clarke won the Pole Vault (9’0”). Kinley Soiney (6th Discus, 8th 100, 8th 400) had three top 10 finishes, Charlotte Ferrie (7th 100, 9th L-Jump) and Lillyan Kiehne (9th 1,600, 10th 200) each two. Kyla Hellickson (7th-tie) and Ava Jacobsen (10th-tie) were top 10 High Jumpers. Olvia Rindels (9th 400) and Grace Kingsley (10th 3,200) also finished top 10. All four relays finished top five. The 4×100 (Sari Rein, Ava Larson, Aubrey Daniels, Ferrie), 4×400 (Sahara Morken, Hannah Vaalemoen, Ella Halverson, Kiehne), and 4×800 (Maddie Zwart, Ella Halverson, Hellickson, Morken) all took third, the 4×200 (Rindels, Vaalemoen, Daniels, Soiney) fifth. For RPH, Aubry Boldt won three events (100-H > 15.26, L-Jump > 18’10”, T-Jump > 36’4 ½”), topping her own program marks in the hurdles and L-Jump. Thrower Jorja Meyer was also impressive with a first (Discus > 101’1”) and a second (Shot). Abby Prinsen (3rd Discus, 8th Shot) also finished top 10 in each. Caitlin Bauer (6th 3,200) and Lydia Pedretti (8th 300-H) added top 10 finishes. For Chatfield, Charlotte Oeltjen (2nd 3,200, 10th 1,600), Jaelyn LaPlante (3rd 200, 6th 100), and Savannah Peterson (5th 100, 5th L-Jump, 8th 200) had all but two of the squad’s top 10 individual finishes. Lillie Stejskal (9th 300-H) and Lexi Kivimagi (10th 800) notched the others. On the guys’ side, St. Charles (1216) topped RP/H (1109.5), Cotter/HL (1078), GMLOKS (1023), and LFCMC (977). Chatfield (860.5) took seventh (of 21). The Tro-Canes did not have a first. Chace Drazkowski (4th Discus, 5th Shot), Lucas Redalen (6th L-Jump, 9th Shot), Aaron Ploetz (4th 3,200, 9th 1,600), and Casey Herek (5th 110-hurdles, 5th 300-H) each had two top 10’s. Gregg Gile (2nd T-Jump) had the highest solo finish. Hunter Rislov (6th 400), Isaac Rasmussen (7th 1,600), Matthew Sprague (9th 800), and Caden Mattson (10th 110) also finished top 10. Three relays took top five. The 4×100 (Bennu Norton-Nesler, Redalen, Landon Dahl, Mattson) took second, the 4×400 (Sprague, Rasmussen, Hegland, Rislov) fourth, and the 4×200 (Norton-Nesler, Dahl, Cadel Carter, Gile) fifth. For GMLOKS, Tate Goergen impressively won the 800 (1:59.25) and 1,600 (4:33.13), beating defending 1A champ Erik Semling of Cotter/HL in the latter. Goergen does not always run the 1,600. Zach Reiland (1st 300-H > 43.21, 3rd 110-H) also had two top three solo finishes. Bently Wiersma (5th T-Jump, 9th L- Jump) and Carter Glynn (6th 800, 10th T-Jump) had two top 10s. Brede Nelson (fourth) and Ethan Schammel (tenth) were top 10 Pole Vaulters. Nelson (11’6”) set the program record. Throwers Rowan Sween (6th Discus) and Obadiah Watson (8th Shot) also finished top 10. With Goergen anchoring the 4×400 (Glynn, Nathaniel Drees, Hunter Hyde), it took first. The 4×200 (Emerson Willford, Kaleb Yunker, Wiersma, Drees), took fourth, the 4×100 (Willford, Michael Johnson, Wiersma, Kaaleem Reiland) fifth. For LFCMC, Greg Kennedy (5th L-Jump, 6th H-Jump, 7th 400, 8th 200) had four top 10’s.  Parker Krage (P-Vault > 12’0”) had the team’s only first place. Brody Niemeyer (2nd Shot, 8th Discus) and Weston Collins (7th 300-H, 10th 110-H) each had two top 10s. Adrian Rindels (8th) also finished highly in the H-Jump. The 4×800 relay (Landon Sethre, Grant Daniels, Cooper Pickett, Maddex Rindels) took second. For Chatfield, Keegan Patten (6th 300-H, 8th 110-H) had two top 10s. Jake Stevens (3rd Shot), Lane Schmaltz (8th P-Vault), and Ross Stoehr (9th 100-H) each had one. The second thru fifth place 1A team finishers then competed in a virtual meet to determine four state Wild Card teams. LFCMC’s girls finished third to make state. RPH’s boys took fifth and just missed out.

Track and Field (5/9 & 5/10)

Southeast Conference Meet (GMLOKS’ girls (103) topped LFCMC (58.5) for first. GMLOKS’ boys (88.5) also topped LFCMC (48.5). L/P and Schaeffer also competed. GMLOKS girls’ firsts: Chantle Reiland (100 > 12.39, 200 > 25.51), Brynna Nelson (400 > 1:03.96), Breeley Galle (100-H > 15.94, 300-H > 49.83), Lauren Queensland (H-Jump > 5’1”), Gracie Foster (T-Jump > 33’8”), Kloe Meyer (Shot > 34’0”), Caisa Kolling (Discus > 99’2”), and the 4×800 (10:34.47 > Anna Imm, Sadie Bustad, Emma Lewison, Queensland) team. GMLOKS boys’ firsts: Zach Reiland (100 > 11.78), Tate Goergen (400 > 50.07), Carter Glynn (800 > 2:11.68) Calum Sween (110-hurdles** > 18.82), Cody Howard (300-H > 46.87), Ethan Schammel (H-Jump > 5’10”), Brede Nelson (P-Vault > *12’0”), Bently Wiersma (T- Jump >38’5 ¼”), the 4×100 (46.58 > Goergen, Glynn, Kaleb Yunker, Kaaleem Reiland), 4×200 (1:33.79 > Yunker, Z-Reiland, Wiersma, Goergen). LFCMC girls’ firsts: Elizabeth Clarke (P-Vault > 9’0”), Charlotte Ferrie (L-Jump > *17’0 ½”), the 4×100 (*51.66 > Ferrie, Sari Rein, Kinley Soiney, Lillyan Kiehne), 4×200 (1:51.27 > Olivia Rindels, Aubrey Daniels, Kiehne, Soiney), and 4×400 (4:14.69 > Rindels, Autumn Rakosnik, Soiney, Kiehne) teams. LFCMC boys’ firsts: Greg Kennedy (200 > 23.08, L-Jump > 20’0”), Brody Niemeyer (Shot > 50’6 ¼”, Discus > 139’2”), and the 4×400 (3:48.09 > Maddex Rindels, Adrian Rindels, Jaxon Huntington, Davis Penhollow). *Denotes program record. **Denotes only two competitors. )

Three Rivers Conference Meet (St. Charles’ boys (246) topped nearest foes Cotter/HL (149) and RPH (123.5) with Caledonia/Spring Grove and Chatfield (59) tying for seventh. Cotter/HL’s girls (218) topped SC (137) and PEM (114.5) with RPH (103) taking fourth, Chatfield (72) sixth, and C/SG (47) eight (of 10 teams). Winning TRC titles for RPH were Aubry Boldt thrice (100-hurdles > 15.35, Long Jump > 17’6 ½”, Triple Jump > 35’4”), Abby Prinsen (Discus > 106’2”), Chace Drazkoswki (Shot Put > 49’7 ½”), and the boys 4×800 (8:17.71 > Aaron Ploetz, Matthew Sprague, Trey Hegland, Isaac. Rasmussen). Sprague (800) and Gregg Gile (T-Jump) took second. Ploetz (800), Rasmussen (3,200), Drazkowski (Discus) and Hunter Rislov (400) took third. For C/SG, Fischer Wait won two TRC titles (200 > 22.11, 400 > 49.88). He set the TRC and C/SG 200 records. Eli Staggemeyer (100), the boys 4×200 (E-Staggemeyer, Owen Staggemeyer, Coby Hammell, Wait), and the girls 4×200 (Chloe Lange, Kamrin Thies, Sienna Augedahl, Nicole Banse) took second. Nicole Banse (200, L-Jump) added two thirds. For Chatfield, Jaelyn LaPlante took second (High Jump) and third (100). Jake Stevens (Shot) took second. Charlotte Oeltjen (3,200) took third.)
