Tony Schultz
Candidate for Houston City Council
1. Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in Houston. After spending some time living in the Twin Cities area, my wife Lisa and I moved our family back here in 2006. I’m a morning show host at KQ98, a country music station based in La Crosse, and have worked there for 11 years. I’m involved in the community as a city council member, volunteer EMT on the Houston Ambulance, board member of the Houston Hoedown Board and the Houston Athletics Booster Club, I coach youth and middle school aged sports. I was on the Houston County EDA for several years.
2. Why are you running for office?
I’m running for Houston City Council because I believe Houston has many wonderful attributes but can be even more. We have wonderful countryside and several outdoor activities for people inside and outside our community to enjoy already. We can add more to that list by looking at what we have around us and expanding our options. There is more than one issue in Houston, and I have the vision to see that we need to find ways to continue to support our local businesses and work to not unnecessarily raise property taxes on any of our residents.
3. What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?
It’s no secret that I support the Off Highway Vehicle project and have for the decade-long process the city has been involved with, getting it to completion. This project would bring needed dollars to our businesses that rely on money from outside the community to stay here and be successful. By not completing this project, we risk having to pay back hundreds of thousands of dollars which would have to come from a tax increase on residents. We have vacant properties that risk not being developed due to the higher taxes putting further strain on all of our residents.
