To the people of Fillmore County, from your Sheriff…

“It’s good to work in Fillmore County.”  It’s never been unusual to hear that from one of our deputies, but over the past few months, I’ve sure heard it a lot more.

Every year at this time, the Fillmore County Journal recognizes our area first responders with a special section. Jason Sethre asked me if there was something I wanted to write for this edition, and I knew right away what I wanted to say.

Thank you. Thank you to the people of Fillmore County for the unending support that you have shown for our deputies and officers over the last few months. Thank you for taking the time to tell our deputies and officers that you support and appreciate them in all of the ways that you have done so. We have received countless phone calls, personal visits, messages sent to staff, cards, care packages, and many times a deputy has gone to pay for their meal at an area restaurant and staff tells them that someone already took care of it and asked to say “thank you”.

At a time when law enforcement officers across the country are retiring early, leaving the profession, or maybe even being reluctant to pro-actively enforce the law, I see our deputies and officers going to work with more commitment to justice and to their community than I have ever seen. That speaks to their character, but it’s also due in large part to the support that they feel from all of you.

Please know that every single expression of support that you have shown is deeply appreciated by all of us.
