Timothy N. Tuohy “Tim” 69, passed away on August 16, 2024, in Rochester, Minn. Born on November 11, 1954, in Ft. Ord, Monterey, Calif., Tim followed his military family to France, Louisiana, Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Minnesota and Florida. Tim grew up to be a man of many passions and talents, deeply loved and respected by those who knew him. He loved spending time with his close-knit clan of brothers and sisters. Tim graduated in 1973 from Litchfield, Minn.
Tim was a kind, compassionate, and intelligent individual who brought life, love, and laughter wherever he went. His creative spirit was evident through his career as a gifted graphic printer and artist, where he combined his technical skills with his artistic vision to create beautiful works of art.
A lover of Mid Century Modern design, Tim’s apartment at Fontaine Towers in Rochester was a testament to his taste, filled with expertly selected MCM furniture, appliances, and artwork that he found while thrifting. He had a knack for refurbishing items as needed, and he spent much of his time creating abstract and textual paintings that were admired by all who saw them. He provided expertly flower arrangements for every family celebration.
Tim’s love for nature was profound, and he found joy in walking and appreciating the outdoors. He held a deep belief in the innocence of children. He was a proud patron to the Rochester Public Library and the Rochester Art Center.
He lived by the motto “Gallantly forward” which reflected his approach to life and the courage with which he faced its challenges. He survived four bouts of cancer in the last two years with grace, courage and a lively, positive spirit. His smile, wicked sense of humor and tossing his head back belly laugh will forever be remembered.
Tim is survived by his siblings, William P. Tuohy of Lanesboro, Minn.; Sharon L. Tuohy (Lee Scherer) of Stewartville, Minn.; Larry (Mary) Tuohy of Albert Lea, Minn.; Laurie A. Tuohy of Preston, Minn.; and Teresa (Jim) Mueller of Harmony, Minn; many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; the Boston clan of cousins and the Minnesota clan of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald W. Tuohy and Imelda “Mickey” MacLean Tuohy, as well as his sister Brenda L. Thorson.
A private family memorial will be planned for a later date, with internment to take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, Minn., next to his “Irish Twin” sister Brenda L. Thorson, who was born just 10 months and 11 days before him. Cremation services are being handled by Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, Minn.
Tim’s legacy of kindness, creativity, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
