The Para-Normal Cotton Ball Mystery

Have you ever had a mystery take place in your own household?  For me it happened just the other day. I have been using cotton balls twice daily.  I used up the last few, so we got some from the grocery store to restock my collection.

One night, I left the whole new package of 100 cotton balls on top of the bathroom vanity.  The next morning, I looked for them … they had disappeared.  I checked under the sink, in all the drawers in my vanity and in the cupboard. I desperately even checked the shower stall, just in case someone was playing a prank on me.

Just before bed that night, I mentioned the missing fluffs to my husband. “I didn’t move them.” I said.

“Well, neither did I. They must have just walked away,” he replied.  He rolled over peacefully and went to sleep, while I was left to contemplate these strange happenings.

The next day, I took a deeper look into my drawers.  Still the cotton balls evaded my search.  I used a ball of fluff stuffed in a pill bottle for my daily routine.  But mystery still lingered in the air.

After my daughter came home from work, I asked her, “Did you move the cotton balls?”

“The last time I saw them they were on the vanity in the bathroom,” she offered.

By now I was considering that somebody might be pulling my leg.  Yet my family was pleading innocent of keeping a secret from me.  The cotton could not have just disappeared … but it did!  Something was amiss.

Could we have had an intruder that took the cotton balls?

Again, I approached my daughter with the curious situation. I explained to her how I had looked for them time after time and they were nowhere to be found. By now, she was laughing hysterically at me!

She headed for the bathroom to solve my obscure concern.  After a while of rummaging through the items in my cabinet, she spied, you guessed it … a large bag of cotton balls.  Eureka!  This bag had 300 cotton balls in it. It was pinched between the cupboard wall and the pipes under the sink. How unexpected.  I had not even noticed that I had lost these. But this was not the bag I lost!

Later in the day, I opened a drawer in the vanity.  I pushed it shut, but it bounced right back.  Aha! I reached into the darkness behind the drawer.  At last, I was once again reunited with my cotton balls.

I had checked the drawer before, and had no clue the balls were there.  You might think that this story has a happy ending because now I have 400 cotton balls. But the question still remains, who put the cotton balls in the drawer in the first place?

I will leave the conclusion of this mystery to you.  You might want to keep an eye on your cotton balls, they may try to elude you, too.

Pizza Hot Dish

1 15½ ounce jar pizza sauce

1 pound ground beef

Salt and pepper

Italian seasoning

1 cup sliced black and green olives

1½ cup sliced pepperoni

1 cup sliced mushrooms

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (reserve 1 cup)

3 cups cooked noodles (1½ cups dry)

Brown hamburger.  Season with salt, pepper and Italian seasoning to taste.  Mix with the rest of the ingredients.  Bake covered at 350°F for 20 minutes. Top with remaining cheese and bake for 10 minutes until cheese melts.

(NOTE: This tastes like pizza without a crust.  Feel free to add or subtract the topping-type ingredients to suit your taste buds.  You may decrease the amount of some toppings, as well.  When company comes, be aware that the cheese will be stringy as it is served and as it is eaten. Enjoy!)
