Three children’s providers from Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center recently presented to close to 200, 7th-11th graders, at the Lanesboro High School, about suicide prevention. There were two presentations, each about an hour long. The team talked about suicide, self-harm and how to recognize if a student or friend needs help. In addition, discussion was had about available crisis services, both the text and call line.
To keep the students engaged, there was an activity in which the students could write down any questions they had about suicide or mental health on a notecard. The notecards were collected and the questions were addressed anonymously at the end of the presentation. The students asked many great questions and shared good comments.
