Sue Ellen Richter, 66, of Lime Springs, Iowa, died Friday, December 17, 2021, in Rochester, Minn.
Memorial services will be held at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 22, at 10:30 a.m. in Lime Springs, Iowa. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, at the Lime Springs Community Center in Lime Springs, Iowa.
Sue was born on October 19, 1955, in Rochester, Minn., to Paul and June (Meisner) Mathison. She graduated from Preston High School in Preston, Minn., and later, Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Upon graduation, Sue moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she worked at the Dayton’s corporate office in various positions until 1987.
Sue married Tim Richter on September 16, 1989, in Cherry Grove, Minn., after Tim answered a personal classified ad that Sue’s brother had put in the Rochester Post Bulletin, unbeknownst to Sue. Sue started working at the Lime Springs Medical Clinic in 1991 as a medical transcriptionist and receptionist and continued working there until she became ill, just short of 30 years. She was also a church organist, having played at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church, Chester United Methodist Church and Maple Leaf Lutheran church over the years. She took great pride in her gardens and upkeep of the farm place. Sue had a love of ice cream that knew no limits; there was never an ice cream bowl big enough!
She is survived by her husband Tim, son David and daughter Denise (Brian) Rathke, as well as her cats Speckles, Biggeatsy and grandcat Lucky; brother Alan (Linda) Mathison and sister Eloise (Gary) Skaggs, both of Preston, sister-in-law Connie Richter of Lime Springs, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to HoCA (Howard Cancer Association) and Humane Society of Northeast Iowa in Decorah, Iowa.
