Steve Kemp
Candidate for Spring Grove City Council
1. Tell us about yourself.
I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, when Alaska was still a U.S. Territory, which I guess dates my approximate age. Moving to Spring Grove in the 1980s, I have lived in the community for 37 years. Though being of retirement age I still manage to remain busy working for Bernard Bus Service, driving a school bus in the Mabel-Canton school district. During the boating season I also work for Todd County as an aquatic Invasive Species inspector/educator. I have served as a Spring Grove City Council member in the past.
2. Why are you running for office?
The time seems right to again serve the city of Spring Grove as a member of the city council. Wisdom comes with age, and I feel that Spring Grove, like other small towns has challenges that have arisen over the last two to three years with the Covid pandemic. I think that I can bring some of that wisdom to the council to meet these challenges and hopefully have positive outcomes.
3. What do you hope to accomplish if you get elected?
Keeping the tax levy from rising too much is always an important job of the city council. Hopefully this can be accomplished in the future with smart planning. Trying to improve the business district is an important part of what I hope to accomplish as a city council member. With the question of the liquor store on the ballot this November the council will need to assess the outcome and make a decision. As a council member I would vote to close the corner store and assign the liquor license to a private entity.
