Steve Sagen obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Stephen William Sagen, age 70, of Harmony, Minn., passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Steve was born in La Crosse, Wis., on February 8, 1954, to Oscar E. and Joanne (Devine) Sagen. He grew up in La Crosse and graduated from Logan High School in 1972.

Steve moved to Harmony, Minn., in 1976, and worked for Harmony Enterprises for 42 years, retiring in 2018. He was involved in many Harmony community organizations over the years, including 25 years of teaching hunter safety and serving two terms on the city council. Steve loved the outdoors and nature. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Steve’s travel adventures have taken him from the sereneness of Stout Island in Wisconsin to the bustling streets of Tokyo, Japan. On October 8, 2010, Steve and Jane Bellingham were united in marriage.

Steve is survived by his wife Jane, children by first marriage: Jessica Sagen, Angela (Shad) Sivly and Laura Sagen; stepchildren Sarah (Eric) Laitinen and Robert Bellingham, grandchildren Christine (Ahmed), Dominic, Mercy, Luna, Ava, Jace, Logan, Lainey and Leo; great-grandchildren Anisa, Mohamed, and baby girl due in November; mother-in-law Annella Doyle, sisters Linda (Richard) Gustafson and Diane (Gordie) Rieber; brother-in-law Joseph (Maryanne) Doyle, and several nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, an aunt, seven uncles and great-granddaughter Aniyah.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mayo Clinic Oncology and Mayo Hospice for their excellent care and support during Steve’s long illness.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Assumption Catholic Church, Canton, Minn., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Schmelzer Funeral Home (formerly known as Lindstrom Funeral Home) is handling the arrangements.
