Spring Grove’s Addyson McHugh and Maggie Lile were repeat all-conference volleyball honorees and were joined by Kenadee Gerard on the coaches’ 2021 All-Southeast Conference Team. Lydia Solum received Honorable Mention. It was the third All-SEC season for McHugh, and Lile was a First Team selection for a second year after receiving Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2019. All four Lions are juniors.
Only half of the First Team will graduate, but only East Division champion Mabel-Canton and runner-up Spring Grove have as many as three First Team selections with eligibility remaining. That includes Cougar junior Sophie Morken, who was voted the 2021 Conference Player of the Year. Mabel-Canton and Lanesboro led the list with four selections each. Spring Grove and West Division champion Grand Meadow each had three honorees. The honor squad was experienced as well as productive with 11 of the
18 First Team selections having previously been All-SEC or received Honorable Mention. Each team receives one Honorable Mention, and four of those 11 repeat as well.
McHugh, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, played around the rotation with an amazing 60 ace serves to lead the Lions in that category for a second straight season. She ranked second in three statistical categories with 248 kills, a stellar 97% serving percentage and 232 digs.
Lile was one of only three All-SEC liberos. For the second straight season, she led the Lions in both digs with 448 and in serve receive/passing with a 2.40 rating. Lile contributed in every facet of the game with 62 set assists and 28 aces while serving 93.5%. And from the back row, she put away 48 kills.
Gerard, a previous letter winner, had an outstanding breakout campaign in her first season as a starter. The 5-9 outside hitter scored with a team-high 260 kills. She served with 93.4% accuracy with 17 aces and defended with 16 blocks and 137 digs.
Solum, also a previous letter winner who earned a starting role in 2021, led Spring Grove with 32 blocks, twice as many as any other Lion. The 5-9 middle hitter ranked third with 116 kills with a commendable 19% hitting efficiency. Solum served at 93% while scoring with 26 aces.
