The Spring Grove girls broke into the win column in a big way with a May 5 home double-header sweep of Lyle/Pacelli, 6-4 and 6-2. Both games were scheduled for five innings; L/P was the home team (batted last) in the nightcap. Eighth grader Jada Strinmoen earned the pitching win in the first game, and eighth grader Brinley Middendorf was the pitcher of record in the late game.

GAME ONE: SG 6, L/P 4
It was back and forth with five lead changes, but the Lions scored first and last, including the winning tallies in the bottom of the fourth inning. Spring Grove out-hit the Athletics 5 to 4 overall and also hit with power. Three of the five Lion hits were doubles – a two-bagger each from Strinmoen (1 for 3, RBI), Sydney Holland (1 for 2) and Addyson McHugh (1 for 3). The other two hits came from Maggie Lile (1 for 3, RBI, 2 steals) and Kraus (1 for 2, RBI, steal).
It was tied at 4-4 after two outs in the bottom of the fourth when the Lions scored the winning runs, both unearned. Lile reached base on an infield error and scored on an RBI double by Strinmoen, who then scored on an outfield error. Overall, Spring Grove left four runners on base, while Lyle/Pacelli stranded twice that many.
GAME TWO: SG 6, L/P 2
It was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Lions erupted for five runs, accomplished with three singles and three L/P errors. the Athletics quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. There were no hits in that L/P reply, which included two walks, two hit batters and the only Lion error of the game. Middendorf allowed only two hits, a lonely single in each of the final two innings.
But the big blast was an inside-the-park home run by Kraus, who drove the ball deep into the gap between the leftfielder and centerfielder. The Lion shortstop batted 2 for 3, including an RBI single in the big five-run frame. The other three Lion hits came off the bats of Izabel Kaufmann (RBI), Kylie Reynolds (RBI) and Lydia Solum. The Lions left only two runners on base, while the Athletics (1-9) stranded five.
