Spring Grove served an amazing 97% with 16 aces (Paige Jahnke 6, Maggie Lile 4) as Spring Grove opened the 2020 season with a three-set road win at Glenville-Emmons, 25-17, 25-12, 25-10. All six Lion servers scored from the service line.
Sophomore Addyson McHugh scored 16 points with 13 kills, 1 ace block and 2 service aces. Sophomore Kenadee Gerard was the most efficient hitter (38%) with 8 kills. Rachel Normann assisted on 24 of 33 SG kills and also scored with 2 kills.
VaNessa Peterson paced the defense with 12 digs. Error totals were close (SG 20, GE 25) but the Lions amassed 52 earned points (33 kills, 3 blocks, 16 aces) while limiting the home team to 21 (14 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces). Spring Grove had 11 kills in each of the three sets.
SET ONE (SG 25-17) was tied six times, finally at 11-all, before the Lions scored the next four points on the way to an eight-point win. The Wolverines scored the first three points in SET TWO (SG 25-12), but Spring Grove broke away from a 9-9 tie to outscore the home team, 16-3 the rest of the way. The Lions never trailed in SET THREE (SG 25-10) and closed out the match by taking 12 of the final 14 points.
