Jacob Olerud had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Spring Grove boys whipped Martin County West, 66-32. MCW High School, located in Sherburn, along Interstate 90, serves the communities of Trimont, Welcome and Sherburn. Basketball is a Class A program in Section 2. The Mavericks were state-ranked when they defeated Spring Grove 41-33 two years ago. They dropped to 4-20 this season after the loss to the state-ranked No. 12 Lions, who improved to 21-3.

Ben Udstuen was close to a double-double with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.  Bryce Berns contributed 11 points and Jaxon Strinmoen 10.

Spring Grove shot 40% and MCW 39% from the field, but with only 4 offensive rebounds and 29 turnovers, the Mavericks did not shoot often enough to compete. MCW scored first, but trailed,11-2, before scoring again.  The Lions led 32-21 at halftime and then opened the second half with a 14-to-3 run.

The Lion B-team (16-4) crushed the visitors with a similar 65-27 score.
