Houston catcher Caitlin Brand cannot quite get a hold of the ball to put the tag on Southland runner Riana Ulven in the teams’ key SEC match-up. Warriors Blast Cotter Enroute to TRC-East Title

The top two softball teams in the TRC-East, Caledonia (11-1, 15-2) and Cotter (12-1, 14-3), squared off the last week of the regular season, the winner grabbing the inside track to a division crown. There were some tense moments early. Caledonia scored a run in their first. The Ramblers left three runners in scoring position in the next two innings. The team with 63 extra base hits including 12 home runs, Caledonia, then blasted the Ramblers. In the fourth, Paizley Lange (2-run HR) and Vivian Kittleson (solo HR) went back-to-back with their jacks. By the end of the inning, the Warriors led 5-0. In the fifth, Cotter long-time starting pitcher, senior Madison Hazelton, had four walks. Warrior senior Annah Anderson made it hurt with a grand slam home run making the score 10-1! Hazelton was driven from the game. Cotter’s reliever threw two pitches. Doubles by Aubrie Klug and Avery Augedahl brought the 10-run rule into effect. Helped by an outward blowing wind that aided six more extra base hits, Caledonia grabbed first in the TRC-East by 11-1 tally. Anderson (2-3, GS-HR, 4 RBI, R) hit her third home run. Kittleson (2-2, HR, RBI, 2 R) and P-Lange (1-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) each hit their second. Elsa Blum (2-2, 2B, RBI), Augedahl (1-4, 2B, RBI), Kennedy Hansen (1-2, 2B, 2 R), and Klug (2-2, 2B, 2 R) also tattooed Hazelton (4 1/3 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, Loss). The only Warrior batter without a hit was 300-career strikeout winning pitcher Braelyn Lange (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K). And thus, back-to-back, Caledonia beat 1AA stalwarts Z-M and Cotter 27-2. At L-A, the Warriors sent 15 to the plate, ripped 10 hits, and scored 10 runs in the first. Augedahl had two triples (including one that cleared the bases). The Warriors won 11-1 in five innings. B-Lange again picked up the win (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K). Augedahl (2-4, two 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R) and A-Lange (3-3, two 2B, RBI, 2 R) had two extra base hits. B-Lange (2-4, RBI) and P-Lange (2-3, 2B, RBI, R) had two hits. Blum (1-3, 2B, 2 R), Hansen (1-2, R), and Anderson (1-2, R) each drove in a run. Chad Augedahl’s group then finished a game with FC/L. P-Lange (4-4, 4 RBI, 3 R) hit two home runs and Blum (3-4, 2B, 5 RBI, 2 R) another in an 18-2 win in four innings. A-Lange (2-3, 3 RBI, 2 R) had a pair of triples. Augedahl (2-3, 3B, 3 R), Lily Wiebke (1-2, 2B, RBI, R), Anderson (1-2, 2B, 2 R), Kittleson (1-4, 2B, RBI, R), and Hansen (2-4, 2 RBI, R) also did work. Augedahl (4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K) collected the win. Klaudia Biel (2-2, 2B, RBI, R) and Ellie Anderson (2-2, RBI) led FC/L. The Warriors (14-1, 18-2) win the TRC-East over Cotter (12-3, 14-5). They are 1AA’s 2-seed, will host 15-seed Lake City (2-17). Caledonia is averaging 11 runs per game. In their eight-game win streak, they’ve out-scored foes 100-16.
