Soccer 9/10 & 9/12

September 21, 2020 by Lee Epps

Fillmore County Journal - Sports - Soccer Coverage

(G) Cotter 13, Cal/SG/Hou 0 (The visiting Cotter girls scored just 12 seconds into the match. About seven minutes later, the Ramblers scored twice within 35 seconds to make it 3-0. A penalty kick goal made it 6-0 a half-minute before halftime. Cotter (4-0, 4-0 TRC) scored again just a minute and 49 seconds into the second half. Cotter, the conference and section favorite, had 30 shots on goal.  “Eighth grader Josie Foster held strong and had 17 saves on the night,” said Coach Chris Jandt.  “The defense played very well, but we could not prevent the attacks from Cotter.  We struggled to string passes together to get the ball out of our defensive end.”); (B) Cal/SG/Hou 1, Cotter 2 (A Warrior second-half goal by Austin Meyer cut the Rambler lead in half after Cotter had scored two goals within the first 10 minutes of the match. Meyer scored for the third straight game. Warrior coach Craig Hahn said, the boys “played hard,” but made a couple of early “mental mistakes.” The visiting Warriors (1-2-1, 0-2-1 TRC) slipped below .500, while Cotter (1-3, 1-3 TRC) posted its first win of the season.);

(B) P-E-M 1, Cal/SG/Hou 0 (The only goal was scored just 65 seconds into a boys match at Caledonia. The contest was scoreless during the final 78 minutes and five seconds. It was the second straight one-goal, league loss for the Warrior boys (1-3-1, 0-3-1 TRC) while P-E-M improved to 3-1.); (G) Cal/SG/Hou 0, P-E-M 3 (“Josie Foster (12 saves) had another great game and made some great saves,” said Coach Jandt.  “She’s becoming more comfortable back there and is playing well beyond being an eighth grader. This was the best defensive game out of the backline all year. They really helped Josie out by stepping in front of shots.” The Plainview-Elgin-Millville goalkeeper made a sliding save on a great shot by Gabby Roble just before halftime.  After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs scored with a header just a half-minute into the second half. The visiting Warrior girls slipped to 1-4 (0-4 TRC))
