Sharon Kay Greene, age 81, of Spring Valley, Minn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 4, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sharon was born to Fred and Opal (Taylor) Moser on March 22, 1942, in Livermore, Iowa. At a young age, Sharon and her family moved to a farm near Hayfield, Minn. Sharon went to school in Hayfield and graduated in 1960. She was then employed as a typist at Mayo Clinic until 1964.
In November 1960, Sharon met her future husband, Dale, at the Pla-mor Ballroom on the east side of Rochester on Hwy 14. Dale was on leave from the Army before he was deployed to Germany, where he spent two years. Following his discharge in December 1962 he returned to Minneosta. Dale and Sharon were married July 6, 1963, at the east St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell. They raised two children, Steven Dale born on April 15, 1964, and Kimberly Kay born on November 1, 1966. In December 1969, they moved to the farm they have resided at ever since.
Sharon was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville, and loved to study the Bible. She enjoyed country western music and was an avid gardener and had beautiful flower beds and a well-kept lawn. Sharon canned and froze many fruits and vegetables, always being prepared for hard Minnesota winters. She also loved to observe the birds that would flock to her feeders and birdbaths, especially when they brought their young with them. Sharon’s household always included her beloved dogs, and she was happy to let them in the house, though she sometimes regretted the muddy pawprints.
Sharon relished travelling throughout the U.S. with Dale, her brother John “Jack” and his wife Ann Moser.
Sharon was a true farm wife. She milked cows, baled hay, chopped corn, drove grain to the elevator and helped out in any way that was required. On July 6, 2023, Sharon celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary to Dale.
Sharon is survived by her husband Dale, her two children, Steven (Inge) Greene and Kimberly (Michael) Greene; her two grandchildren, Amanda (Levi) Hershberger and Aaron Greene; and her great-grandson Bryson Hershberger. She is also survived by her sisters Ruth Frederick of Phoenix, Ariz., and Beverly Blake of Rochester, Minn.; her sisters-in-law Louise Moser of Kasson, Minn., and Ann Moser of Mora, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert “Bob,” Vernon “Buzz” and John “Jack” Moser.
She will be terribly missed by her friends and family.
To honor and celebrate Sharon, a visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville and one hour prior to the memorial service at Grace Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Grace Evangelical Free Church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. A reception will follow.
