The Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) will open applications for Individual Artist Grants on December 28, 2024, with submissions due by January 28, 2025. In a significant change to the application process, SEMAC has eliminated the Letter of Intent requirement based on feedback from its recent Needs Assessment Survey.
These competitive grants support artists in creating new work in dance, literary arts, music, theatre, and visual arts, as well as interdisciplinary projects. Artists must reside in the SEMAC region and culminate their work in a public capstone event through publication, performance, or exhibition at an accessible venue provided by a non-profit or other approved organization.
Two funding levels are available: Emerging Artist Grants $3,000, and Advancing Artist Grants $5,000.
No matching funds are required for these grants. However, artists should note that grant awards are considered taxable income.
Artists interested in applying can access the full application starting December 28 through the SEMAC website. Staff support is available throughout the application process.
SEMAC, a non-profit arts agency, is designated by the State of Minnesota Arts Board as the regional arts council for eleven southeastern Minnesota counties: Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha and Winona.
For more information about SEMAC’s grant programs, visit semac.org or contact the office at 507-281-4848.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
