Major and Company Accounting & Tax has been a staple in the area for many years and that will not change with a new owner of the business. Customers will have the same tax consultant they have had in the past and the same friendly faces will be there to greet you.
Aikan Major, the new owner of Major and Company Accounting, Tax & Financial Services, is no stranger to the business of financial services or to Major and Company, as he is the grandson of the founder of the original business EH Major and Associates, Eugene Major.
Major and Company Accounting & Tax was started in 1994 in Preston when Ron Schreier and Tim McLaughlin purchased EH Major and Associates.
Major attended Winona State studying finance, and he also played college football in the position of linebacker, bringing together two of the things he enjoys. “I have always been a numbers guy,” says Major, explaining that he always knew he wanted to be in finance. “It’s pretty much been sports and numbers my whole life.”
In his sophomore year of college, Major was offered an internship with Northwestern Mutual and continued his internship there for three years while attending college. After graduation he moved from Winona to the Twin Cities and worked at different financial companies. “I have been in financial services since 2015,” he noted.
“Initially it was more of the investments and insurance at Northwest Mutual and the other firms, but then as we continued to grow we offered more services just to be more valuable to customers,” explains Major.
Although he had been a financial advisor at big firms, the plan was to take over Major and Company at some point in his career but he wanted to build his knowledge and understanding before doing so.
While living in the Twin Cities, Major started his company Pivotal Wealth and Tax, which offers many financial services to customers. Pivotal Wealth and Tax has offices in the Twin Cities, Rochester, and Alma, Wis. Pivotal Wealth and Tax acquired Major and Company on October 1, 2022.

The office in Preston will be known as Major and Company Accounting, Tax and Financial Services to keep the name that is familiar with customers and make them feel at ease that they will see no change when they walk into the office in Preston.
Now living in Rochester, Major is happy to be back southeastern Minnesota. “I grew up in a small town and it’s good to be back in more rural areas directly helping people and to be of service,” states Major.
When asked why he worked so hard to become a business owner, Major replied, “The ability to impact others and help others is something that has been in my family a long time,” and it has always been important to him to follow in that tradition of service.
There remains a family connection at Major and Company as Ron Schreier is his uncle, and Tim McLaughlin, who although not related, feels like family, will remain with the company for the foreseeable future.

With this being his first tax season as owner of Major and Company, Major says the transition has been a smooth one, especially having Schreier and McLaughlin remain in the office as they are well known to area residents.
Major is also very appreciative of all the support he has received from local residents and business owners as well as family and friends.
Although Major is a young man at 27 years of age he has put in the time to gain knowledge, has shown expertise in his field and has proven his competency.
