Ronald Solberg obituary, Fillmore county Journal

Ronald L. Solberg, 77, passed away on September 22, 2023 at Banner Gateway Hospital in Gilbert, Ariz.

Ron was born July 16, 1946 in Estherville, Iowa. He was the son of Otto and Bernita (Hansen) Solberg. He grew up on the family farm until his father’s passing. Ron graduated from Estherville, Iowa, high school and joined the Army after graduation where he proudly served as Military Police. Following the military, he spent many years in retail management and then 22 years with the U.S. Small Business Administration, retiring in 2009.

Ron was a jovial man who was always willing to see the lighter side of things. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, followed by travel, grilling, and tinkering in the garage in his later years. He was known to be able to fix anything – or at least give it his best shot, making it “good enough for who it’s for.” He always carried a hanky, pocket knife, and a pen (just in case). He was also known to stencil SOLBERG on almost any and everything, of value or not.

Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharilyn (Buss) Solberg; daughter Shandar Solberg, son Ronald Trevor O. Solberg, daughter-in-law Darla Brown, and grandchildren Alyssa, Jacob and Keelie Solberg. He is also survived by brothers-in-law George Buss (Jeanne) and Lyle Buss (Debbie), sisters-in-law Donna Buss, Ginny Starken, Rita Buss, Carol Buss, Sharon Hammel, Marilyn (Gary) Brockway, Staria (Lee) Kester, Donnel (Dave) Johnson, and Kathy (Randy) Overend.

Ron was preceded in death by his father Otto Solberg, mother Bernita Solberg Dahna, brother Dale Solberg, stepfather Francis Dahna, half-brother Donald Dahna, father-in-law George Buss Sr, and mother-in-law Tena Buss. He is also preceded in death by brother-in-law Dennis Buss, Donald Buss, Dallas Buss, Lonnie Buss, Darwin Buss and Lee Hammel.

Ron’s celebration of life will be held at the Eyota Legion on May 31, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to The Special Olympics.
