Spring brings showers, green grass, flowers and road construction.

Some projects are already in progress. Road and bridge improvements are more than welcome, but delays and detours not so much. Let’s ensure worker safety during construction projects by complying with construction related signage.

Planned project start dates are not set in stone, but subject to change due to conditions and contractor scheduling.

MnDOT

MnDOT doesn’t have any projects planned for Fillmore or Houston Counties in 2024, but nearby projects can still affect us. Highway 30 will be resurfaced from Highway 52 in Chatfield to east of Stewartville. Work is scheduled to begin about July 1 and conclude about October 1.

The first year of the three-year project to change the I-90/Highway 52 interchange to improve safety and reduce delays will begin around July 1 and run through October this year. Temporary crossovers will be constructed, and the construction of new ramps and loops will begin.

Fillmore County

Fillmore County has 11 projects planned for 2024. A bridge replacement with a new bridge and approach on CR 107 north of the junction with CSAH 25 in Norway Township is complete.

The concrete overlay of CSAH 1 from CSAH 39 to the west Spring Valley city limit is in progress.

The following five bridge projects have been awarded to Minnowa Construction, Inc. When each project is completed, the company will move onto the next.

  • A bridge/box culvert replacement on Village Rd. just south of the junction with Highway 16 and Village Rd. (section 24 of Rushford Village) is in progress.
  • The bridge/box culvert replacement on CSAH 12 about a mile west of the junction of CSAH 14 and CSAH 12 in Carimona Township will begin about May 20.
  • A bridge/box culvert replacement on CSAH 30 just east of the junction of CSAH 30 and Highway 139 in Harmony Township will begin around June 7.
  • A bridge/box culvert replacement on CSAH 7 a little over a mile south of the intersection of CSAH 7 and CSAH 5 in Chatfield Township will begin about June 31.
  • A bridge replacement with a new bridge on CSAH 29 over Riceford Creek about 2.8 miles east of the junction with Highway 43 in Newburg Township will begin about July 29.

The full depth reclamation and bituminous overlay on CR 113 in Prosper (Canton Township) is scheduled to begin around May 20.

The full depth reclamation and bituminous overlay of CSAH 4 from CSAH 38 to CSAH 5 (Sumner/Jordan Townships) is scheduled to begin around June 24.

Two bridge replacement projects which have been awarded to Midwest Contracting are scheduled to begin around August 26. One is a bridge replacement/box culvert on Dendel Dr. about a half mile from the junction of CSAH 25 and Dendel Dr. in Arendahl Township and the other is a bridge replacement/box culvert on Kodiak Rd. just west of the junction of Kava Rd. and Kodiak Rd. in Carimona Township.

Houston County

Houston County has three projects planned for 2024. The bituminous reclamation and bituminous paving of CSAH 13 from the Houston city limits to 1.6 miles west (Bottom of Oak Ridge Hill) and Top of Oak Ridge Hill west to the Fillmore County line (7.1 miles) will begin in late June or early July.

The replacement of a bridge on CSAH 20 about 2.5 miles south of the junction with Highway 44 will possibly begin in June.

In late summer a bridge is to be removed at the junction of Hauge Hill Rd. and Highway 76.

State Trails

The Root River State Trail is closed for bridge construction between Heron Rd. and Grit Dr. (about one mile west of Lanesboro). The trail is expected to be back open around June 1.

Much of the funding for these projects are a direct result of the Infrastructure bill.

Rep. Finstad voted AGAINST the bill.
