Rick Staggemeier obituary, Fillmore County Journal

Rick “Bucko” Staggemeyer, 72, of Spring Grove, Minn., died Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Mayo Health System in La Crosse, Wis.

Rick was born December 10, 1951, in La Crosse, Wis., to Fremont and Marie (Dahle) Staggemeyer.  He graduated from the Caledonia High School.  He was a truck driver for 51 years for David Kirk Trucking, Caledonia Haulers, and Truss Specialties. He married Linda Meyer and was later divorced.  He was later married to Alice Schuttemeier for 13 years until her passing.  For the last 23 years, has been with Verna Quandahl.  He was a member of the Eitzen Lions Club, former member of the Eitzen and Spring Grove Fire Departments, and a member of the Henrytown Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, playing cards, golfing, camping, and driving their Mustang.

Rick is survived by his fiancé Verna of Spring Grove, a brother, Dean (Betty) of Eitzen; a niece, Shelly (Mark) Tollefson; a nephew, Chad (Teri); great-nieces and nephews, stepsons John and Jim St. Mary; Verna’s children Robin (Dave) Bong and Brian Quandahl (Patsy Folio); and Verna’s grandchildren DJ and Nicole Bong, Kori McCabe, and Jordan Quandahl; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Fremont and Marie, a niece, Kelly Staggemeyer; an infant niece, LaDawn Staggemeier;, and Verna’s son Jay and granddaughter Rikki (Quandahl) McCabe.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at the Henrytown Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery in Spring Grove.  The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements.
