In conjunction with Flag Day, Lanesboro’s American Legion Post #40 will conduct its annual flag retirement ceremony on Tuesday, June 12 at 6:15 p.m. This will take place at the local baseball field, located on the left of Highway 8 just before its intersection with Parkway Avenue in downtown Lanesboro.
Proper retirement of the U.S. flag includes protocol which provides “…Dignified Disposabal of Unserviceable Flags.” It must be conducted outdoors and at night. If not able to attend the ceremony itself, the public is welcome to drop off their torn or tattered flags at the Legion or at the Lanesboro City Office; these will be included in the ceremony. New flags may be purchased at the Legion.

I’ve always wondered why burning a flag causes conniptions and violent outbursts but when they are worn out it is a celebration to burn them.
