Livestock producers in Fillmore County who need to renew their registrations should have or will be receiving notice for updating their feedlot registrations for 2025.  Fillmore County currently has 568 registered feedlots.  Feedlots with 50 or more animal units, or 10 or more animal units in shoreland areas, are required to register.  Registration information includes location, type of operation, number of livestock and manure storage.

The State of Minnesota’s Animal Feedlot Rules, Chapter 7020, requires that all feedlot registrations be updated at least once in a four-year cycle.  The two-page registration renewal form asks for the maximum number of animals on the site at any time in the past five years.  Accurate registration data is critical for running a successful feedlot program in the county.  Registration data is used to develop inspection strategies based on feedlot type, size, and relationship to surface water and wells.  It also helps to stay abreast of feedlot trends, which helps in developing educational materials and programs for livestock producers.  Thus, producers should be sure to update the feedlot officer if there is a change in ownership, phone number, email, or home address.

Feedlot registration helps the state protect the environment by targeting resources for improvements where they are most needed.  It also helps to be able to communicate with livestock producers about regulatory and educational information.
