Reg Rhodes, 47, of Grand Lake, Colo., died at home unexpectedly on Sunday, July 29, 2018, after a courageous struggle with debilitating, chronic, clinical depression.
Reg was born on March 27, 1971, to his parents, Jon and Carol Rhodes of Harmony, Minn. Reg graduated form Harmony High school in 1989 and joined the Army National Guard for six years of service. He attended Winona Technical College for a two-year degree in Marine and Outdoor Power Equipment Technology and continued his education with workshops to achieve the title of Master Mechanic. Reg worked for many years at PowerWorld in Granby, Colo., where he was employed at the time of his death.
Reg was a gentle, caring, sensitive soul. He loved living in the Colorado Rockies and was never far from a snowmobile or mountain bike. He loved blazing biking trails in the wilderness he cherished. In his lifetime, Reg was a dedicated wrestler, motocross racer, a fierce mountain bike competitor, a conscientious worker, and a loving son and brother. Of prime importance during all of his life were his beloved dogs.
Reg is survived by his parents, Jon and Carol Rhodes of Harmony, Minn.; a brother, Ryan, of Rochester, Minn.; a nephew, Aiden and a niece, Zoey; and his constant companion, his Corgi, Wrangler. Reg was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and a nephew, Finn Patrick. A family Celebration of Life will be held August 26 in Lakeville, Minn.

Last summer I adopted a new dog. I’m a bit of a loner and love walking at night when no one else is around. That’s how I met Reg – he was the same. We’d regularly run into each other, stop for a few minutes and chat. His depression was obvious, but there was a sense of humor and kindness underneath. I enjoyed our chance visits. My dog, Chloe, would stop and stare and I knew he and Wrangler were heading our way.
Life can be so hard – especially for extra-sensitive people. My heart goes out to Reg and his family.

Reg was a great cousin. Funny, fun loving and was always up for an adventure as a kid. We did a lot of fireworks together!
