We’re having the Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Choir in our morning service this Sunday!
I’m always blessed to hear the stories of those going through this life changing, drug and alcohol program. In those months in the program, lives and eternal destinies are changed. Those with life controlling substance abuse, those who have sold their bodies, robbed, cheated, lied, done things they couldn’t have ever imagined doing. All for the sake of feeding an addiction that’s turned them into someone God never intended them to be. But that’s what sin does. It draws us away from God and separates us from him. It changes us. It destroys.
Yet there is hope! It’s called the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God became flesh, lived a sinless life, became sin for us, died on the cross for your sin and mine, rose again so those who put their faith in him will also rise again. I like how The Apostle Paul puts it in Romans chapter five. “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly… But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
We’re really looking forward to having the MNATC Choir with us as they remind us that the Gospel isn’t just some philosophy, religious theory or sentiment. It’s life changing and soul saving. It has the power to redeem, reconcile and restore. Jesus didn’t come to leave us as we were or to leave us as we are. No matter what sin, rebellion, disobedience we find ourselves in, God has the power to save us from those things, changing us, bringing us into completeness and fulness of life. It’s what his gospel of grace is all about. Again, the Apostle Paul talks about the hope in the Gospel. “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God?” -I Corinthians 6:9-11
“And that is what some of you were…” That’s real hope and change!
