There are new events scheduled this year for youth at Chatfield’s 57th Annual Western Days celebration, August 8-11.
The fun starts off on Wednesday with a horseshoe medallion hunt. The first clue will be posted on the festival’s Facebook page at 11 a.m.
Head over to the city pool to cool off during the open swim session from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and again on Friday from 1-5 p.m.
On Thursday stop at the city park at 5 p.m. and get a friendship bracelet and/or a henna tattoo, and stay for the pie eating contest, the messiest, tastiest competition ever.
At 8:30 p.m., hang around and watch the family-friendly movie, “Migration” while sitting under the stars. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The aroma of fresh mini donuts, cotton candy, and popcorn swirling around the park is sure to tempt you into trying one or all three of the tasty treats.
Register now for the youth co-ed youth volleyball tournament, hoop and football challenge, teen bean bag tournament, 5K Stampede, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, or the second annual kick up the color run.
What could be more fun than getting dunked or dunking someone in the dunk tank? What about inflatable games or a hay bale toss?
Activities for the younger kids include the kiddie parade, the second annual toad race – bring your own toad, Big Time Pony Rides, trampolines with bungees, barrel train ride, multiple inflatables, the money-making children’s coin find, and the popular pedal pull. On Friday night join the fun at the Family Round Up at the Catholic church on 4th St and Twiford for carnival games, food trucks and more from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Balloons by Kevin will be in the park at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
With all this outdoor activity you are bound to be hungry. While at Western Days, support the following approved food vendors: St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gleason’s Concessions, Ole & Lena’s Kitchen, Stumpy’s Concessions, Two Scoops and A Bar, Rolling Roasters, Hanson Girls Concession, Minne “SNO” da Shaved Ice, Big Dog Concessions, Fillmore County Dairy Association, JEM Theatre, and VFW Chicken BBQ.
There is plenty for the adults to do while the kids are being entertained. Enjoy everything from live entertainment in the beer garden, bingo, a tractor ride, ATV trail ride, free entertainment at the band shell, crafters/flea market, grand parade, 25th annual classic car, truck and antique motorcycle show, and the Best of the Midwest horse pull.
