The Preston City Council has seen some turnover. Members that had been appointed to fill seats vacated by a retirement and a death have now been filled with officially elected members. At the January 3 meeting, newly elected members Steve Hall and Flossie Schultz and re-elected Mayor Kurt Reicks and councilman Charles Sparks recited the oath of office.
Appointments to the city’s various boards and committees were approved. Councilman Dean Aug serves on Planning and Zoning and EDA, Sparks serves on Tourism, the Public Utilities Commission, Parks & Recreation, and the Library Board. Schultz serves on the Tree Board and Hall on EDA.
Meetings will continue to be held on the first and third Mondays at 6 p.m. with four exceptions, which will be held on a Tuesday, including January 17, February 21, July 5, and September 5.
Two resolutions were adopted authorizing signatures on two corporate accounts: F&M Community Bank (Mayor Kurt Reicks, Mayor Pro-tem Charles Sparks, City Administrator Ryan Throckmorton, Deputy Clerk Sheila Marzolf), and Merchants Bank Visa Card (Throckmorton, Marzolf, and city secretary MariLyn Bakke).
Throckmorton and Jim Bakken had reviewed the city’s fee schedule which had been updated in 2022. The fee schedule is set by ordinance. No changes were recommended. The fee schedule was approved unchanged from last year.
The city’s 2023 dues in the amount of $125 for the Preston Chamber of Commerce Membership were approved.
A list of donations received by the city in 2022 were approved.
Automatic payments that the city makes throughout the year were reviewed and approved.
Throckmorton noted repairs to the city council chamber are continuing. Repairs and improvements intended to resolve the water issues have successfully kept the council chamber dry during the recent wet weather.
The next meeting of the city council will be held on Tuesday, January 17.
