This month’s Ostrander City Council meeting took place on October 1 with all councilmembers present, including Lyn Massey-Mills, Dan Hellerud, DJ Start, Vernon Thompson, Mayor Pam Kunert and City Clerk Wendy Brincks. The meeting was short and to the point. Nothing major happened over the last month.

One local resident had her basement flood due to a water heater problem that happened while she was out of town. She is on a fixed income and cannot afford the bill. The city council agreed to drop her water bill from $462 to $200 to help her out.

The council approved a conditional use permit for a double-wide modular home that will go in next spring.

There were no major incidents with People Services, city maintenance, fire department, or the sheriff’s office to report.

The final payment was made to Alcon. As mentioned last month, the Phase 2 infrastructure improvements were physically completed on August 9, 2023, but the final paperwork had not yet been approved and submitted. Now that everything has been submitted, the project is officially complete. The council approved the final payment to Alcon Excavating for $107,615.72 last month. The council approved a motion to close that construction account and move all remaining funds over to their general account.

The next regularly scheduled meeting date was originally set for November 5, but that falls on election day this year. Councilors agreed to move the meeting to November 7.
