Opal Gossman, 94, of Lanesboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Traditions in Preston.
Opal Marie Schrautemier was born on February 29, 1929, in Alliance, Nebr., to Virgil and Mildred (Brandt) Schrautemier. After her birth, the family moved to Bend, Oreg. She married Howard Gossman on October 19, 1958. They moved to Harmony, Minn., in 1959 for three years and then moved near Whalan in 1962, where they farmed and raised their family. After Howard’s passing in 2000, Opal moved to Preston in 2001.
Survivors include Debra (David) Thompson, Janice (Mike) Bronk, Randy, Bob (Sheila), Connie (Mike) Thedens, Kristi (Dan) Ruesink, daughter-in-law Brenda, 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Howard, three sons: Tom, Kerry and Peter; two daughters, Terry Ann and Darcy, 2 grandsons and one granddaughter.
Funeral Mass for Opal M. (Schrautemier) Gossman will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lanesboro, with Father Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, in Lanesboro.
