As of the date of this publication, we are 37 days away from Election Day. This is an important ingredient of our democracy.
Over the course of the next few weeks, our staff at the Fillmore County Journal will be coordinating a feature titled “Meet the Candidates.”
This is something we do every year in order to help our readers understand who they may be voting for in the general election.
We are only publishing question and answer segments for candidates running in a contested race. With 74 candidates offered an opportunity to participate in this process, the priority for space on the Commentary pages will be dedicated to the “Meet the Candidates” feature. If there is space available, we will publish any Letters to the Editor or Guest Commentary submission. But, we cannot guarantee that these will be published prior to Election Day.
And, we have always had a policy that we do not allow for any election-related submissions to run the last two Mondays prior to Election Day. So, October 19, 2020, will be the last day prior to Election Day in which we will publish any Letters to the Editor or Guest Commentary submissions; October 26, 2020, and November 2, 2020, will be off limits for election-related submission.
Based on the number of candidates vying for a seat at the table of city councils and school boards, this election is just as important at a local level as it is at a national level.
