Throughout 2020, so many businesses have faced extraordinary challenges. Some have been closed. Others have been restricted in capacity. The supply chain collapsed. So many things happened in 2020 that we have never experienced before. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster.
And along with those challenges, decisions had to be made on an ever-changing basis. The most significant word of this year was “adaptability.”
From all that has happened in 2020, leaders have emerged to keep their businesses in business. To keep their employees employed. So many businesses owners have had to make difficult decisions as they navigated uncharted waters, just trying to keep the ship afloat. It’s not been easy by any standards.
This is why our newspaper has decided to sponsor an award to be presented to the Business Person of the Year. We feel the time is right for this kind of recognition.
We want to take a moment to acknowledge someone who has led their company to do great things in spite of the many challenging obstacles encountered in 2020.
Maybe this person is an inspiring and supportive leader for their employees. Maybe this person has come up with a new way to generate revenue, pivoting the company in a different direction of sustainability.
We have some amazingly resilient, thoughtful, and innovative small business owners in our area.
Whether you are an employee or a customer of a local business, surely you have recognized incredible leadership in the face of adversity.
We plan to present this award in early January of 2021 and recognize the Business Person of the Year in the newspaper. The deadline for submitting your nomination for Business Person of the Year is December 31, 2020. There is a nomination form in this week’s newspaper.
If there was ever a time when you could brighten someone’s day, this would be one of those shining moments.
