Odell M. Soberg, 87, of Spring Grove, formerly of Mabel, died Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Tweeten Health Care in Spring Grove.
Odell was born October 2, 1936, in Spring Grove, to Alfred and Inga (Larson) Soberg. He attended country school near his home before attending the Mabel High School. He farmed with his father near Hesper, Iowa, until his father died in a traffic accident in November 1952. Odell ran the farm for a few years before moving to Mabel. He was inducted into the Army in 1960 and was sent to Germany. He was discharged in 1962. He had worked for Hagen Lumber in Mabel and then for Whit-Craft in Winona. When the company moved to Florida, he was employed in maintenance at Northern Engraving in Spring Grove until he retired. He resided in Spring Grove with his mother and was her caretaker until she passed away in April 1989. Odell entered assisted living in August 2022.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 9 at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in the Mabel Public Cemetery.
