Residents and visitors will have a new attraction to enjoy during this year’s Founder’s Day celebration in Caledonia. The Sew Blessed Quilters of Caledonia are hosting the first annual Airing of the Quilts on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you do not want to miss it.
The event celebrates the area’s rich cultural heritage, storytelling, and craftsmanship of quilting while helping to preserve a cherished Midwest tradition. Organizers expect approximately 20 quilts to be displayed throughout the community as part of the exhibit.
Visitors can follow a map of quilt locations that will be published on the Founder’s Day Facebook page the week prior to Founder’s Day.
Founder’s Day organizers are also bringing back the community parade which has not been held for the last several years. The parade begins at 4 p.m. and will travel west on Main Street to the stoplights, before heading south on Kingston Street and ending near Merchants Bank.
The day begins with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Caledonia Fire Department from 7-10 a.m. Attendees can also enjoy delicious treats at the Caledonia Bakery Blast from the Past.
Another popular activity returning this year include the 10th Annual Randy Klinski Memorial Car Show. Registration begins at 10 a.m. on Main and Kingston Street, with the show running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Families will find plenty of activities throughout the day, including the Children’s Fun Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Kid’s Fun activities on Main Street from 4:30–8 p.m. Additional attractions include Krazy Dayz on South Kingston, a bean bag tournament, robotic demonstrations, a sawdust pile, and live entertainment on Main Street.
With the addition of the Airing of the Quilts and the return of the parade, this year’s Founder’s Day promises a full day of fun for all ages.
