This summer, experience the charm of Whalan, Minnesota, with the return of the popular Music in the Bluffs outdoor concert series. Nestled along the scenic Root River in Fillmore County, surrounded by limestone bluffs, the series brings live music to Whalan Park Gazebo for a third consecutive year.
The free concerts invite locals and visitors alike to relax among the bluffs and enjoy a range of musical styles in a picturesque small-town setting. The 2025 lineup includes:
Saturday, June 28 at 5:30 p.m. – Nite Shift, performing a mix of classic and contemporary rock
Saturday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. – Root River Jam, blending Americana styles like folk, country, blues, rock, Celtic, and jazz improvisation.
Saturday, August 16 – A full day of music: 2 p.m. Arnold-Bradley Band; 4 p.m. Matt & Brenda Stier; 6 p.m. LP & the 45’s, a high-energy cover band honoring the pioneers of pop, rock, country, rockabilly, and soul.
Organizer Jane Lewis shared, “We’ve had a great response from the community, not only Whalan, but the surrounding areas. We hope people will continue to come to our concerts and support us so we can continue to support musicians from the area and provide a variety of musical talent in the community.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. Food and drinks, including Minnesota favorites brats and sloppy joes, along with potato chips and desserts, will be available for purchase before and during each concert.
Make a day of it. Visit the historic Whalan Depot and Whalan Museum, bike the Root River Trail, or simply soak in the natural beauty of Bluff Country. Strike up a conversation or two with the locals and discover the rich history that makes Whalan such a unique place to visit.
